LA's Hit Salad Chain Sweetgreen Expanding Again With New San Diego Location Heading Into Former Corner Bakery Space In Mission Valley

Sweetgreen, the fast-casual salad chain known for its customizable, seasonally inspired bowls, is continuing its rapid expansion in San Diego with plans to open a new branch former Corner Bakery Cafe space inside Westfield Mission Valley mall.

Founded in Washington, D.C. in 2007 by Georgetown University graduates Nicolas Jammet, Nathaniel Ru, and Jonathan Newman, Sweetgreen has grown from a single neighborhood salad shop into a national brand with more than 150 locations. Now headquartered in Los Angeles, the company emphasizes fresh, locally sourced produce, sustainable proteins, and chef-driven recipes that rotate seasonally.

This Mission Valley restaurant will be Sweetgreen’s sixth in San Diego County, joining existing locations in Carlsbad’s Beacon La Costa, Del Mar Highlands Town Center, 4S Commons Town Center in 4S Ranch, and Westfield UTC in La Jolla, as well as an upcoming downtown location in the redeveloped Horton Plaza Park food hall. Like other branches, the new outpost will feature a menu of signature salads, warm grain bowls, and seasonal sides, all customizable to individual tastes.

The space Sweetgreen will occupy was home to Corner Bakery Cafe from October 2007 until its closure in early 2025, part of a brand-wide restructuring following the bakery chain's acquisition by Dallas-based SSCP. The prominent spot inside the busy Westfield Mission Valley mall offers high visibility and steady foot traffic, making it a strategic choice for Sweetgreen’s continued local growth.

Sweetgreen is expected to open in September 2025 at 1025 Camino De La Reina, Suite 3, in San Diego's Mission Valley. For more information, visit sweetgreen.com.
