The late-night fire, which broke out in the restaurant’s kitchen, caused an estimated $300,000 in damages but spared neighboring buildings. While no one was injured, the future of the restaurant looked uncertain as repairs stretched through permitting delays and extensive rebuilds. Now, owner Hyun Ja Pyo is ready to welcome the community back to the colorful, reggae-inspired eatery that has been part of Garnet Avenue since 2000.
Zen 5 has long been a Pacific Beach favorite, known for its laid-back atmosphere, specialty sushi rolls, nigiri, Japanese appetizers, and a full menu of beer, sake, and wine. Its return is expected to bring new energy to PB’s dining scene while restoring a familiar gathering place that locals have missed for nearly 18 months.
Zen 5 Sushi’s soft reopening begins October 10 at 1130 Garnet Avenue in San Diego's Pacific Beach. For more information, visit zen5sushi.com.
