Car Plows Through Crystal Pier Gate In San Diego's Pacific Beach, Sending 800-Pound Barrier Flying

A shocking scene unfolded Friday night in Pacific Beach when a speeding car plowed through the entrance gate of Crystal Pier, launching an 800-pound barrier into the air and leaving a path of chaos and destruction in its wake.

According to witnesses, the vehicle - reportedly driven by a woman suspected of being under the influence - raced down the Garnet Avenue westward at an alarming speed before slamming into the locked pier gate. The force of the impact allegedly deployed the vehicle’s airbags, sent the gate hurtling through the air, and damaged at least three nearby cars parked on the pier, likely occupants of the onsite hotel.

Surveillance footage (linked to below) captured the moment of impact, showing the car tearing through the gate at high velocity at the pier entrance, shocking a security guard sitting on the southern side of the entrance. In a twist almost too ironic to believe, it was the security guard’s first night on the job.
Despite the violent collision, both the driver and passenger reportedly walked away laughing and uninjured, according to witnesses, although the driver was purportedly arrested. “It’s real - I was out here this morning,” one local said. “The gate’s completely bent, and the car hit three others before it stopped.”

Authorities have not yet released the driver’s identity or confirmed any arrests. While no serious injuries were reported, the impact damaged the structure of the historic pier, which will require repairs in the coming days.

This is a developing story and will be updated as we learn more.
