Gusto Deli & Bistro Brings Italian Specialties, Sandwiches & Fresh Pasta To San Diego's Pacific Beach

A low-profile Italian specialty shop that quietly built a loyal following near Morena Boulevard has officially stepped into the spotlight. Gusto Deli & Bistro has relocated from its tucked-away business park location near Costco to the heart of Garnet Avenue in San Diego’s Pacific Beach, taking over the quaint former Flame Broiler space just off one of the neighborhood’s busiest corridors.

The move marks a major shift for Gusto, which many customers first discovered as an online Italian grocery and delivery service before it opened a modest storefront for in-person pickup. That original shop, while beloved, was easy to miss, hidden behind gated access and an unconventional parking layout. The new Pacific Beach location places Gusto squarely in a high-visibility retail zone, signaling a broader push to evolve from specialty market into a neighborhood-facing deli and bistro.

At the Garnet Avenue location, Gusto has rolled out Italian sandwiches, coffee service, and fresh pasta dishes, expanding beyond retail while still maintaining its market roots. The shop continues to stock hard-to-find Italian staples like guanciale and Italian 00 flour, along with a deep selection of olive oils, vinegars, dried pastas, rice, gnocchi, jams, peppers, olives, and cheeses. Italian sodas and specialty beverages remain a draw, particularly for customers hunting down nostalgic imports.
Gusto originally launched as a delivery-focused business, later opening a physical market to support in-store pickup and local customers. That hybrid model still defines the operation today. In addition to walk-in retail, Gusto ships Italian groceries nationwide via UPS, including to Hawaii and Alaska, and offers bulk quantities for foodservice, catering, and restaurant clients. Gift baskets, Italian meal kits, truffle products, gluten-free and vegan items are also part of the lineup.

The Pacific Beach shop is currently operating daily from 10am to 6pm, with sandwich and prepared food service continuing to ramp up as the team settles into the new space. While the footprint is intimate, the move brings Gusto closer to the kind of foot traffic and neighborhood engagement that was difficult to achieve at its previous location.
For Pacific Beach residents, the arrival of Gusto adds a European-leaning specialty option to Garnet Avenue’s evolving food scene, blending market shopping with casual daytime dining. For longtime customers, it represents a long-overdue upgrade from a hidden gem to a place that’s finally easy to find.

Gusto Deli & Bistro is now open at 1088 Garnet Avenue in San Diego's Pacific Beach. For more information, visit gustogrocery.com.
