Kettle On Founder Planning Oceanside Expansion With ‘Kettle On Coast,’ Taking Over Longtime Petite Madeline Bakery Space In San Diego's North County

A North County San Diego café appears to be poised for a new chapter, as public records show that Kettle On Coast will soon open in the space long occupied by Petite Madeline Bakery & Patisserie in downtown Oceanside.

California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control records indicate that Givino Rossini, the founder behind Kettle On Grand in Escondido and Kettle On Main in Fallbrook, is preparing to open a new concept called Kettle On Coast at 223 North Coast Highway, the address occupied by Petite Madeline Bakery since 2011.

The filing shows a pending Type 41 on-sale beer and wine license for the Oceanside address under The Kettle On LLC, with Rossini listed as the company’s member. The business name on the application is Kettle On Coast, signaling the next chapter for the rapidly growing Kettle On brand and its first move into coastal North County.

The development comes as a surprise to many locals, as Petite Madeline Bakery has operated at the North Coast Highway location for 15 years and remains open as of publication. Known for its French-inspired pastries and longtime presence in downtown Oceanside, Petite Madeline has been a fixture of the neighborhood for more than a decade. While no formal closure announcement has been made by the bakery, the ABC transfer indicates that control of the property is in the process of changing hands.

Rossini launched the Kettle On brand more than a year ago after acquiring and reworking an existing café in downtown Escondido. Rebranded as Kettle On Grand, the concept quickly distinguished itself as more than a coffee shop, emphasizing community-driven programming, specialty coffee, craft beer, wine, and frequent events ranging from DJ nights and skate competitions to short films and pop-up markets. A second location, Kettle On Main, followed in Fallbrook later in 2024, cementing the brand’s momentum in North County.

According to Rossini, the Kettle On concept is intentionally built around creating a “third place” for local communities rather than a traditional café model. His background includes years in hospitality, time spent learning specialty coffee in Australia, and experience helping launch restaurants in San Diego before pivoting into tech and eventually returning to hospitality full time. That blend of entrepreneurship and operations has shaped Kettle On into a lifestyle-forward brand that blends food, beverage, and culture.

While few details have been released about Kettle On Coast specifically, the Oceanside address suggests the concept will lean into a coastal identity while retaining the brand’s core values of quality, consistency, and community engagement. The pending beer-and-wine license indicates that, like its Escondido and Fallbrook counterparts, the new location will likely operate as an all-day café with extended afternoon and evening appeal rather than a strictly morning-focused coffee shop.

The Oceanside expansion would mark Rossini’s third brick-and-mortar café in less than three years and the first coastal outpost for the Kettle On brand. It also reflects a broader trend of independent San Diego operators moving into high-visibility coastal corridors traditionally dominated by long-established local businesses.

As of now, neither Rossini nor Petite Madeline Bakery has publicly commented on the transition or timeline. ABC records show the license status as pending as of December 30, 2025, indicating the project is still in its early stages. If approved, Kettle On Coast would become one of the most closely watched café openings in Oceanside, signaling both a notable change for a longtime bakery space and the continued expansion of one of North County’s fastest-growing local café brands.

Kettle On Coast is expected to open in 2026 at 223 North Coast Highway in San Diego's North County city of Oceanside. For more information, visit thekettleon.com.
