Since launching in 2001, Gator By The Bay has evolved into one of San Diego’s most distinctive annual festivals, celebrating the rich musical traditions of zydeco, Cajun, blues, rockabilly, salsa and New Orleans jazz. The event continues to draw both acclaimed touring artists and regional favorites, while attracting attendees from across California, the U.S. and beyond for a uniquely immersive cultural experience.
The 2026 lineup features a wide-ranging mix of standout performers, including Jon Cleary & The Absolute Monster Gentlemen, Grammy winner Chubby Carrier & The Bayou Swamp Band, Geno Delafose & French Rockin’ Boogie and The Pine Leaf Boys led by Grammy winner Wilson Savoy. Additional highlights include Rick Estrin & The Nightcats, John Németh with the Johnny Vernazza Band, Kirk Fletcher, Erika Baier and The 44’s with Kid Ramos. Festival organizers have also added funk powerhouse Dumpstaphunk, set to close out the Mardi Gras Stage on Saturday night, along with Western swing performances under the stars on Friday featuring Deke Dickerson, Mitch Polzak and The Prairie Moons.
Gator By The Bay kicks off with a special Thursday evening opening celebration and continues through Mother’s Day weekend with a packed schedule of live performances, dancing and interactive experiences. The festival features multiple wooden dance floors, including large shaded spaces at the main stages, as well as free dance lessons led by top instructors from across the country.
The French Quarter Food Court returns with an extensive lineup of Louisiana-inspired cuisine, with vendors serving crawfish, boudin sausage, catfish, alligator, barbecue and oysters, alongside staples like gumbo, jambalaya, po’ boys and étouffée. Guests can also indulge in classic desserts including beignets, pralines, bread pudding and sweet potato pie, while the Taste of Louisiana Pavilion offers live cooking demonstrations and tastings from professional chefs.
The event remains family-friendly, with kids 17 and under admitted free with a paid adult. Festivalgoers can enjoy Mardi Gras parades, face painting, interactive activities and a vibrant marketplace featuring art, clothing, jewelry and festival-inspired goods.
