Rise Southern Biscuits & Righteous Chicken will take over the former Brothers Turkish Cuisine space within Rancho San Diego shopping complex in El Cajon, where the restaurant is expected to undergo a full renovation ahead of an opening slated for the coming months. The project is being led by the same local franchise group behind the brand’s first San Diego location in the College Area.
Originally founded in 2012 in Durham, North Carolina, by Chef Tom Ferguson, the concept began as Rise Biscuits & Donuts before rebranding in 2021. The fast-casual chain has since expanded to more than 20 locations nationwide, with over 100 additional units in development. Rise has also received national recognition, including a spot on Food & Wine’s list of the best biscuits in the United States.
The San Diego expansion is spearheaded by franchisee Jason Kasid, who previously announced plans to open multiple locations throughout the region. The upcoming East County restaurant marks the next step in that rollout, with additional sites still expected as the brand continues to grow locally.
Rise’s menu focuses on Southern-style comfort fare, including fried chicken biscuit sandwiches, breakfast items, and house-made donuts. Standout offerings include the Sweet Country Blues sandwich with sausage on a glazed blueberry biscuit, the Southern Chicken sandwich topped with pimento cheese and bacon, and hearty biscuit-and-gravy plates featuring fried chicken and eggs.
