One of the world's fastest-growing apparel brands is preparing to make its standalone San Diego debut. SKIMS, the shapewear, underwear, loungewear, and apparel company co-founded by Kim Kardashian and entrepreneur Jens Grede, will open a new retail store this summer at Fashion Valley in Mission Valley.
The upcoming boutique is currently under construction on the second level of the shopping center next to Anthropologie and across from Athleta. Once open, it will mark the first dedicated SKIMS store in San Diego County and further expand the brand's growing brick-and-mortar presence throughout the United States.
Co-founded in 2019 by Kardashian and Grede, SKIMS has rapidly evolved from a direct-to-consumer shapewear startup into one of the most recognizable names in modern fashion. The Los Angeles-based company describes itself as creating the next generation of underwear, loungewear, and shapewear while focusing on innovative fabrics, inclusive sizing, and products designed for a wide range of body types.
The brand first gained attention for its shapewear collections engineered to enhance and support natural body contours, but has since expanded into sleepwear, swimwear, dresses, basics, and lifestyle apparel. In 2023, SKIMS launched SKIMS Mens, introducing a line of underwear and foundational garments designed for comfort, support, performance, and recovery.
Beyond fashion, SKIMS has become deeply embedded in popular culture through partnerships with major sports organizations including the NBA, WNBA, and USA Basketball. The company also served as the official underwear partner of Team USA during recent Olympic competitions, helping elevate the brand's visibility far beyond traditional fashion audiences.
The arrival of SKIMS adds another high-profile retailer to Fashion Valley, San Diego County's largest shopping center and premier luxury retail destination. Located at 7007 Friars Road, Fashion Valley first opened in 1969 and has grown into a more than 1.7-million-square-foot shopping destination featuring many of the world's most recognizable fashion and luxury brands. Anchored by Nordstrom, Bloomingdale's, Neiman Marcus, and Macy's, the center has continued to attract sought-after retailers that often choose Fashion Valley for their first or flagship San Diego locations.
Owned by Simon Property Group, the mall has remained one of the region's strongest-performing retail centers despite widespread challenges facing traditional shopping malls nationwide. Recent years have brought a wave of new luxury retailers, restaurant concepts, and redevelopment plans designed to transform the property into a broader mixed-use destination.
The addition of SKIMS reflects both the continued strength of Fashion Valley and the growing demand for experiential retail as digitally native brands increasingly seek physical storefronts where customers can interact with products in person.
An official opening date has not yet been announced, but the store is expected to welcome shoppers later this summer. The company is currently hiring for the San Diego store.
SKIMS will be located on the second level of Fashion Valley, adjacent to Anthropologie and across from Athleta. For more information, visit skims.com.
