Polish Donut Chain Opens First U.S. Location At San Diego's Seaport Village

San Diego's waterfront has become home to what appears to be the first U.S. location of a popular Polish donut brand that traces its roots back to 1989.

The Best Donuts recently opened at Seaport Village, bringing its European-style pastries and coffee program to a storefront overlooking San Diego Bay. Located in the former Tuk Tuk Eatery space, the shop specializes in Polish-style donuts made in small batches daily, offering a menu that blends traditional European recipes with more contemporary flavors.

Founded in Poland in 1989, The Best Donuts has grown into a well-known brand in its home country, operating numerous locations throughout Poland before making the leap across the Atlantic. According to Seaport Village and local business announcements, the San Diego shop marks the company's first official U.S. outpost.

Unlike many American donut shops that focus on oversized creations and heavily sweetened toppings, The Best Donuts emphasizes European ingredients and traditional preparation methods. The company says many of its products incorporate imported ingredients sourced from Europe, including specialty fillings and creams. Signature offerings include classic Polish-inspired flavors such as rose and plum-filled donuts, alongside modern varieties like crème brûlée, pistachio cream, and Bavarian cream.

The shop's Polish heritage is perhaps most evident in its pączki, the rich, filled pastries traditionally enjoyed throughout Poland and by Polish communities around the world. The pastries have already developed a following among local Polish expatriates and enthusiasts. Earlier this year, San Diego food discussions on Reddit highlighted The Best Donuts as one of the few local businesses regularly offering authentic pączki, including traditional rose-filled varieties that are difficult to find elsewhere in Southern California.

In addition to donuts, the Seaport Village location offers European coffee beverages and a selection of imported beer and wine, creating more of a café atmosphere than a traditional grab-and-go donut counter. The concept fits naturally within Seaport Village's ongoing evolution as a dining and shopping destination, joining a growing collection of specialty food concepts along the downtown waterfront.

The arrival of The Best Donuts adds another international flavor to San Diego's dessert scene, which has seen an influx of specialty bakeries and globally inspired concepts in recent years. For visitors strolling the bayfront or locals looking to sample a taste of Poland without leaving San Diego, the new shop offers a unique alternative to the city's traditional donut offerings.

The Best Donuts is located at 879 West Harbor Drive, Suite B, in San Diego's Seaport Village. For more information, follow @thebestdonutsusa on Instagram
