San Diego Icon Tommy Gomes Heads Across America And Beyond For Season Six Of Outdoor Channel's "The Fishmonger"

San Diego seafood icon Tommy Gomes is setting sail for another season of adventure, education, and culinary exploration as Season Six of The Fishmonger premieres June 8 on Outdoor Channel.

The latest installment of the nationally broadcast series finds Gomes traveling from the Gulf Coast of Alabama to the waters of Cape Cod, the Hawaiian Islands, Alaska, and beyond, continuing his mission to spotlight America's commercial fishing communities while teaching viewers where seafood comes from and the people who make their living harvesting it.

Now entering its sixth season, The Fishmonger has grown far beyond its original San Diego roots. What began in 2021 as a program focused largely on Southern California's commercial fishing industry has evolved into a travelogue of working waterfronts, sustainable seafood, regional culinary traditions, and the people whose livelihoods depend on the sea. Along the way, Gomes has emerged as something of the Anthony Bourdain of the U.S. fishing industry, using food and fishing as a lens to explore local culture, history, and communities from coast to coast and beyond.

The show's reach also now extends far beyond American shores, being broadcast on streaming apps like Apple TV and Prime Now Video. Gomes recently learned that the program is shown internationally in multiple languages, including in countries such as Mexico and Germany, further expanding the audience for his message about sustainable seafood and the importance of supporting commercial fishing communities.

This year's season opens June 8 with "Sweet Home Alabama," which follows Gomes back to Alabama's Gulf Coast as he reconnects with the team behind Fairhope Fish House. The episode explores the region's commercial finfish industry and follows the seafood from dock to plate in restaurants across Fairhope and Birmingham.
On June 15, viewers will join Gomes aboard the commercial fishing vessel Cynthia C off Cape Cod in pursuit of bluefin tuna alongside fisherman Tyler MacAllister. The episode, titled "Red Fish Blue Fish," follows one of the ocean's most prized catches from New England waters to some of Boston's most celebrated seafood restaurants.

The season then shifts to Hawaii for "Big Island Ohana" on June 22, where Gomes joins native Hawaiian fisherman Jeff Silva to explore traditional fishing practices and island seafood culture. The episode also brings the story back home to San Diego, featuring conversations with Larry Baumann and Tommy Baumann of the iconic Bali Hai Restaurant about Hawaiian cuisine's influence on California dining.

A conservation-minded episode arrives June 29 with "Lionfish Shootout," documenting efforts to control invasive lionfish populations during Florida's annual Lionfish Shootout competition in Pensacola. Back in San Diego, Gomes teams with Chef Christina Ng of the Berry Good Food Foundation to demonstrate how the invasive species can become a sustainable and delicious seafood option.

The action heads north July 6 for "Air Station Sitka," which places Gomes alongside members of the United States Coast Guard during a training mission in Sitka, Alaska. The Alaska theme continues July 20 with "Alaskan Salmon," where Gomes works as a deckhand aboard the fishing vessel Samara during a commercial salmon trip outside Sitka.
Between those episodes, viewers return to Hawaii on July 13 for "Island Love," a culinary-focused exploration of fish, tropical agriculture, and local food culture on the Big Island. The season concludes July 27 with "By Air, Land, and Sea," as Gomes joins a commercial pilot to explore the fishing and culinary traditions surrounding Georgia's Jekyll Island.

For San Diegans, Gomes remains one of the region's most recognizable food personalities. A fourth-generation fishmonger whose Portuguese family settled in San Diego in 1892, Gomes spent decades educating consumers about local seafood while becoming a beloved fixture of the city's culinary scene. After leaving Catalina Offshore Products in 2019, he built the Tommy the Fishmonger brand, launched The Fishmonger television series, and partnered with Mitch's Seafood founder Mitch Conniff to open Tunaville Market & Grocery at Driscoll's Wharf in Point Loma.

Beyond television, Gomes recently revived his popular charitable dinner series, Collaboration Kitchen, at Tunaville Market & Grocery. The interactive seafood events pair local chefs with fundraising efforts supporting youth-focused nonprofit organizations throughout San Diego County. Tunaville itself is unique within San Diego's seafood industry, being owned by seven local commercial fishing families who collectively help connect consumers directly to the region's working waterfront and fishing heritage.
Known for his "Respect the Fish" philosophy, Gomes uses the series to champion sustainable seafood, support America's commercial fishing communities, and educate viewers about the often-overlooked journey seafood takes from the ocean to their dinner plates.
