Silver Hoof Creamery Bringing Artisan Soft Serve Ice Cream To San Diego's Old Town

San Diego's ever-expanding dessert scene is about to get another sweet addition as Silver Hoof Creamery prepares to open later this month in Old Town, bringing handcrafted soft serve, whimsical décor, and a fairytale-inspired concept to one of the city's most visited historic neighborhoods.

Set to debut on mid-June inside Old Town Urban Market, Silver Hoof Creamery is a woman-owned, family-run business specializing in artisan soft serve made from a custom recipe developed with 100 percent pure, all-natural California dairy milk sourced from a family-owned farm with more than a century of history. The company says its products contain no artificial flavors, colors, or unnecessary additives, with every swirl designed to highlight the quality of the ingredients.

The new creamery is positioning itself as more than just another ice cream shop. Inspired by a fairytale known as "The Silver Hoof," the concept blends handcrafted desserts with an immersive storybook atmosphere designed to transport guests into a magical winter cabin setting.

"Legend has it that wherever the Silver Hoof touches down, something magical appears," the company states. "Silver Hoof is less ice cream shop, more storybook world: a place where the ingredients are honest, the atmosphere is enchanting, and every swirl carries just enough magic to make you believe the old tales might be true."

The menu centers around soft serve ice cream served in homemade waffle cones, waffle bowls, and the shop's signature waffle tacos. Guests can choose from classic flavors including vanilla, chocolate, and vanilla-chocolate swirl, as well as rotating artisan offerings such as ube, matcha, and a matcha-ube swirl. For those avoiding dairy, Silver Hoof will also offer plant-based options including non-dairy vanilla, strawberry, and a strawberry-matcha swirl.

Beyond soft serve, the creamery plans to offer a lineup of signature sundaes including Tart Cherry, Jacaranda, Dubai Chocolate, and Banana Crunch creations, as well as customizable build-your-own sundaes. Milkshake lovers can choose from flavors such as chocolate, vanilla, strawberry, caramel, and banana, all blended using the shop's soft serve base rather than artificial syrups.

The opening adds another dessert-focused destination to Old Town, which has increasingly evolved beyond its traditional reputation for Mexican restaurants and tourist attractions. The addition of concepts like Silver Hoof Creamery and the recently opened omakase restaurant OtoNori reflects a broader trend toward more diverse culinary offerings within San Diego's historic birthplace.

Old Town Urban Market itself has become a hub for emerging food concepts, offering independent operators an opportunity to introduce unique culinary experiences within one of the region's busiest visitor districts.

Silver Hoof Creamery is expected to open on June 19 at 2548 Congress Street, Suite G, inside Old Town Urban Market in San Diego's Old Town neighborhood. For more information, visit silverhoofcreamery.com.
