In a unique partnership, Hillcrest’s newest restaurant, Pita Jungle, will begin a month long fundraiser to benefit Monarch School and its children impacted by homelessness. Beginning Thursday, June 28th through July 31st, 2012 a portion of the proceeds from Pita Jungle’s “specials menu” will be offered to Monarch School. Residents of the community are encouraged to dine-in or take-out with Pita Jungle during this time, in the spirit of supporting a worthy cause.
Monarch School is a national model for educating K-12 students impacted by homelessness. The 2012 graduating class has overcome extreme deprivation through perseverance and with the support of this community. For the first time ever, all of the graduating seniors will enter college in the fall, and all are giving their families new hopes for a brighter future.
As the number of homeless families with children continues to grow in San Diego County, the needs at Monarch School continue to increase. “Our student body is currently expanding from 150 to 350 students in grades K-12,” says Brian Daly, senior director of external relations. “That’s why generous donations and support from the business community, such as this one with Pita Jungle, mean so much to the work we’re doing with these children and their families.”
Patrons new to Pita Jungle can expect an eclectic blend of healthy and fresh ingredients based on a Mediterranean diet, along with tapas and happy hours. Menu items include a variety of salads, hummus, healthy burgers, wood fired pizzas, fresh seafood, vegetarian and vegan options, and a children’s menu.
