Best Ways to Cool Down This Summer In and Around San Diego

July 13, 2012

Summer is in full swing and things are starting to heat up! Fight the flame this season with Southern California's hottest ice-cold sweets and offerings.  Below, you'll find an assorted list of San Diego’s top tasters that will help tame the summer heat and satisfy your taste buds.

Bardot Bars: Offering a modern twist to the nostalgic ice cream bar, each Bardot bar is hand-made from the highest quality ingredients, with layers of flavors ranging from traditional and classic to the more unique and exotic – and the perfect treat to cool down this summer!  The first Bardot Bar shop recently opened in La Jolla this past month and features a chic, full-sensory environment where guests will be able to peruse the elegantly displayed bars, which can also be enjoyed on-the-go with unique packaging that keeps them cold for up to eight hours.

Gaijin Noodle + Sake House: Cool off and sip your way into summer at Gaijin Noodle + Sake House.  No summer would be complete without a snow cone.  Gaijin has taken the snow cone to a whole new level with their kakigori cocktails.  These "boozy snowcones" are made from Japanese shaved ice and served with sakes or sojus.  Flavors include Mango, Black Sesame, Cucumber, Cherry and Plum.

Pinzimini at the Westin Gaslamp Quarter, San Diego: Downtown San Diego’s newest Italian-bistro restaurant is the perfect venue to enjoy Modern Tuscan style entrees as well as small plates with antipasti, pizza, pasta and paninis.  And opening just in time for summer, the Pinzimini San Diego Bar will be the favorite spot for cocktails featuring delicious, mouth-watering Bellinis perfect to cool down with this summer:

  • Blood Orange Bellini - Blood orange puree topped with blood orange liqueur and prosecco

  • Pomegranate Bellini - Pomegranate puree topped with pomegranate liqueur and prosecco

The Whaling Bar at La Valencia: The Whaler—a booze-spiked milkshake-like concoction that isn’t really a cocktail at all—has been the signature drink of The Whaling Bar at La Valencia Hotel in La Jolla since it was invented there in 1964. The Whaler contains a mountain of vanilla ice cream (five scoops!) along with Kahlua, brandy, Grand Marnier, Creme De Cacao and Bailey’s.

Surf & Sand Resort:  At the oceanfront Surf & Sand Resort in Laguna Beach, the resort's Aquaterra spa is offering a refreshing seasonal spa service as part of the Made Fresh Daily menu infused with papaya, lime and tropical scents. The summer Papaya Lime Punch treatment is 80 minutes, $175 and includes:

  • Lime scrub
  • Papaya and cayenne wrap and massage
  • Coconut scalp treatment
  • Take-home recipe

Served with a tropical cocktail and a refreshing fruit snack.

Holsteins Shakes and Buns at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas: A sinfully delicious treat straight from Sin City, the Bamboozled Shakes from Holsteins Shakes and Buns at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas hotel is the perfect chilly, adult treat. The alcohol-infused concoctions offer an adult version of childhood classics with flavors like: Almond Joy with Malibu Rum, chocolate syrup, toasted coconut, candied almonds and Campfire Smore's with Goslings dark rum and house-made marshmallows on top!

Holsteins full menu takes a funky approach to traditional American fare including specialty burgers and house-made sausages, salads and creative smaller bites.

Delicias: Dive into summer with Rancho Santa Fe Delicias' Chef Paul McCabe's Strawberry Shortcake that is made up of Crows Pass Strawberries, Sour Cream Ice Cream and Pecan Shortbread.
