Reminiscent of the East Side Gallery in Berlin, Germany, a new local artist is selected to completely redesign the exterior of the truck twice a year with his or her own unique design - a convergence of street food and street art.

“Over the last few years we have seen several food and art trends come and go,” said Christian Murcia, co-founder of Brats Berlin. “Currently, creativity in both fields has taken on a new authenticity and street art and street food have seen a revival. We wanted to capture that with both the visual and taste appeal of Brats Berlin.

The truck offers an array of gourmet German sausages from classic spicy Cajun, to exotic smoked Alligator Andouille, to Wild Boar & Bison. Each sausage (ranging from $5.50-$8) is served with a choice of succulent toppings including sauerkraut, grilled onions, yellow and red peppers, and a variety of mustards. Brats Berlin dishes up a side of fresh cut Belgian fries with the bratwurst to make a simple yet inspired meal.

The search for a local artist to paint the new San Diego truck is currently underway and the winner’s work will be showcased during a special artist preview event on Thursday, August 9 at the North Park Farmers’ Market from 3:00pm -7:00pm and at the official San Diego launch on Saturday, August 11th, from 12:00pm - 6:00pm at Green Flash Brewing Company. The six-month mobile gallery will allow the featured artist to showcase their artwork on the streets of San Diego and will also get to sign their name on the Brats Berlin truck. Interested applicants can submit a copy of their work on Facebook.com/BratsBerlin to apply.
