San Diego Knows Avocados | Don't Miss the 27th Annual Fallbrook Avocado Festival on Sunday, April 21st

April 19, 2013

Are you aware that California is the nation's largest producer of avocados with San Diego County being the capital?  San Diego County produces over 40% of California's avocado crop, which in turn produces 95 percent of the nation's avocados!  This Sunday from 9am to 5pm, thousands of avocado lovers from around the world will converge on the town of Fallbrook, located in San Diego's North County, for the 27th Annual Fallbrook Avocado Festival.  Free to attend, participants will get a chance to sample avocados, view the crazy cooking contest entries, buy interesting avocado-themed gifts and enjoy bands, live entertainment and friendly beer gardens.

The Fallbrook Avocado Festival celebrates the agricultural heritage of Fallbrook while providing an opportunity for entertainment and festival fun. This is what sets the Avocado Festival apart from other street faires in the area.

The Festival’s celebration of Fallbrook’s heritage as an agricultural community is visible in the museums, the avocado-themed events sponsored throughout the day, and the wide variety of foods and agricultural displays found all along the Festival streets. Held on Main Ave., visitors get the “village” feeling of Fallbrook while enjoying over 450 booths and many other attractions, including 4 food courts with shady seating and amazing avocado foods. Contests for the kids and a guacamole contest are annual highlights and open to all.

A shaded refreshment garden host all-day music from live bands and a place to sit and relax a little while. A full carnival will be held in Joe’s Hardware parking lot with kiddy rides at the North end of the festival. Free parking, shuttles and admission help make this a fun, family outing and the contests designed for kids are especially entertaining – who could ever forget the race car they built with an avocado and won that blue ribbon?

Check the Fallbrook Chamber of Commerce website for all the details and join the fun on Sunday, April 21st.
