Buddy's Diner Now Open In Pacific Beach | Get A First Look Inside & Check Out The Menu

June 1, 2016

It's been more than 2 years in the making but Buddy's Diner has finally opened at 1564 Garnet Avenue in Pacific Beach. Owned by Vito Tutino, Buddy's offers a traditional diner experience with a retro design and a lengthy menu featuring breakfast served all day, tons of milkshake varieties, and an array of comfort foods.

Buddy aims to be Pacific Beach's only 24-hour diner, but the eatery is currently in it's soft opening. The interior will transport you back in time with it's '50s era diner decor that includes a black and white tiled floor, a dessert display, red and white vinyl booths, celebrity photos, and a coffee and milkshake bar.

The menu at Buddy's is currently in its limited, soft opening stage with its full menu set to debut in the next week or so (included below). Expect an array of breakfast creations like the country fried steak and eggs, chicken and waffles, biscuits and gravy, chilaquiles, the crab cake Benedict, and an array of omelettes, scrambles, French toast and pancakes. For lunch and dinner, offerings include chili cheese fries, a Ruben, a Monte Cristo, a classic turkey dinner (my favorite!), meatloaf, pot roast, turkey pot pie, and so much more, as well as soups, salads, burgers and sandwiches. Buddy's also has a beautiful bakery display, coffee creations, various sodas and will soon offer more than 20 varieties of milkshakes and malts.

Co-owner Vito Tutino started his career as an engineer for the defense industry. He has owned numerous pizzerias and was recently the general manager of Tap Room in Pacific Beach. Administrative hurdles with the City of San Diego resulted in many delays over the course of the more than 2 years Tutino has been trying to open Buddy's, which took over the former Potts by Pat Florists space in late 2013.
