Big Front Door, which first opened on Park Boulevard in University Heights in 2012, is opening a satellite outpost in Bottlecraft's incoming Solana Beach location, with its second brick-and-mortar sandwich-centric eatery heading to Bankers Hill later this year.
The popular sandwich shop will operate out of the kitchen at the former-Beerworks in Solana Beach and will serve a select lineup of sandwiches, salads, sides, soups and more inside the new Bottlecraft location starting as early as Wednesday, March 15. Founded by Steve "Sheep" Riley and his wife Laura, BFD is also in the process of opening a 2,500 square-foot, brick-and-mortar location inside local architect and developer Lloyd Russell's The Louie Lofts mixed-use project at Fourth Avenue and Palm Street in Bankers Hill.
The Bankers Hill restaurant, which is anticipated to open by this summer, will be counter service with a an outdoor patio and also serve beer and wine. While the core sandwich menu will be available, as well as salads and soups, there will also be expanded menu options for breakfast and dinner service, including pastries and fresh baked breads.
