Welcome!

Mmmm...San Diego. Drink it in, it always goes down smooth. Discovered by the Spanish in 1542, they named it San Diego, which of course in Spanish means "Saint Didacus."

Well, that's not entirely true - Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo claimed the bay for the Spanish in 1542, naming the area San Miguel. It wasn't until 1602 that Sebastian Vizcaino, sent by the Spanish to map the Cali coast, came to the bay and named the area San Diego for the Catholic Saint Didcaus. Oh, and the Kumeyaay Indians were here about ten millenniums before either of them.
