Roppongi's New Summer Menu Launch Event | Tasty Bites, Skinny Cocktails, and Models in Bikinis

Big Eye Tuna Bite

On Wednesday, May 4th, La Jolla's Roppongi hosted a packed event to debut their new summer menu.  Light summer fare, refreshing new cocktails and models fashioned in Sauvage Swimwear (featured on the cover of Sports Illustrated 2011's Swimsuit Issue!) took over Roppongi's open-air patio and revamped lounge, creating an entertaining and appetizing event that showcased promising new additions to an already expansive menu.

Titled, the Bikini Ready For Summer Event, the night was sponsored by Sauvage Swimwear and Roppongi Restaurant and Sushi Bar, as well as La Jolla Sports Club & the Sporting Club at Aventine, who each offered on-site membership initiation at discounted rates.  The evening began with bikini-clad models donning the latest trends in stylish Sauvage Swimwear.  Trays offered Roppongi's new summer treats and low-carb samplings from Chef Stephen Window's new "Bikini Menu" (set forth below), as well as Roppongi's new and refreshing summer-inspired Skinny Cocktails.  If free food, affordable drinks, and bikini models weren't enough, gift bags, door prizes, and music by DJ Jalil also incentivized customers to attend this vibrant event.

My favorite of the new Bikini Bites was the beautiful big eye tuna bite: a fresh slice of raw tuna served atop a cucumber chip, layered with a chipotle remoulate and topped with cilantro micro greens.  This amuse bouche offered a whole realm of flavors from the smoky chipotle aioli to the contrastingly pure taste of the tuna and crisp coolness of the cucumber and cilantro greens.  The taco roll offered a similar flavor profile with the smokiness of the salmon and tomato balanced by creamy avocado, accented by the citrusy overtones of the cilantro leaf.  And while the new cocktails may be labeled “skinny,” they certainly pack a punch.   The Bikini Margarita replaces carb-heavy sour mix and sugar with fresh squeezed lime juice, soda water and agave syrup, showcasing the tequila. 

So celebrate the arrival of the heat, and cool down at Roppongi with a sampling of some of the delightful additions from the new Bikini Menu.   You'll realize why Roppongi Restaurant & Sushi Bar is consistently voted “Best Asian Fusion” by San Diego critics and local foodies.
