The Healthy Vending Machines - Fresh Healthy Vending

April 11, 2011

Move over Jamie Oliver because there's a San Diego company making strides in the fight against childhood obesity. Headquartered in Mira Mesa and started in 2010, Fresh Healthy Vending is a vending machine company that specializes in providing healthy alternatives to the typical processed junk food and drinks usually found in such machines.

In 2010, Fresh Health Vending was chosen to fill the role of providing healthy vending products to schools under the Healthy Hunger Free Kids Act of 2010, which places a prohibition on high-calorie junk food in school vending machines. The company is also involved with First Lady Michelle Obama's "Let's Move!" program for preventing childhood obesity.

In the wake of the First Lady's call for a change in the foods available to children via vending options in schools, there is surely a countrywide need for vendors that stock a variety of health conscious and organic products. To address that market, Fresh Health Vending is now offering franchise opportunities across the country. Last year, the company also entered a transportation partnership with Ford Motor Company to use the Transit Connect cargo vehicle, as seen above.

Although it is refreshing to see a vending company that offers positive health conscious choices, it will be interesting to see how the kiddies respond.
