Little Italy Tree Lighting & Christmas Village Brings Traditional Holiday Cheer | 13th Annual Event Planned for Saturday, December 1, 2012

November 23, 2012

The Little Italy Association is proud to present its Little Italy Tree Lighting and Christmas Village, an annual event that brings the community together to kick-off the holiday season in Little Italy.  This day of festivities is expected to draw locals to the Piazza Natale (located at the corner of India and W. Date Street) from 4 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, December 1st.

The Mercato - Little Italy’s Farmers’ Market will open its Christmas Village at 4 p.m. with more than 20 merchants selling hand-crafted and thoughtful gift ideas for the holiday.  Retailers in Little Italy will be stocked full of gift ideas throughout the day.  Confirmation has been received from the North Pole that Santa Claus will arrive promptly at 4:30 p.m. aboard Little Italy Fire Engine #3 to spread his cheer in Little Italy.  The Tree Lighting Ceremony will take place between 6:45 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. with honorary local leadership participation expected from Mayor Jerry Sanders, Councilmembers Kevin Faulconer, City Attorney Jan Goldsmith and other local elected officials and community members.

Live music will feature the Marine Band San Diego’s Jazz Band, which will lead into further live entertainment throughout the evening.  This lineup will keep kids of all ages on their toes as they recognize a range of familiar and favorite holiday songs and carols.

More than 2,000 people are expected to attend this free community event.  Valet parking will be available as an option for $7 per car, and the Little Italy trolley stop will serve those visiting San Diego’s favorite hip and historic neighborhood.   In community spirit, the Little Italy Association will host music, Italian cookies and cider for guests.
