What You Missed at the 3rd Annual Bikes, Boards and Brews Event | An Intimate and Entertaining Food and Craft Beer Gathering

December 14, 2012

Held on the afternoon of Saturday, December 8th on the bay front lawn of the Catamaran Resort & Spa, the 3rd Annual Bikes, Boards and Brews event showcased local breweries, businesses, and some of Pacific and Mission Beach's best eateries.  Unlike other larger beer/food events in San Diego, Bikes, Boards and Brews was an intimate affair with everyone having a blast in a beautiful setting, all while imbibing on America's Finest craft beer in the city that is setting the bar, rocking out to soulful rhythms and munching on tasty treats.  See what you missed and be sure to get your tickets early for next year's Bikes, Boards and Brews event.

Big ole samples!
Presented by Discover Pacific Beach and San Diego City Beat, the 2012 Bikes, Boards and Brews event was organized to celebrate the culture of Pacific Beach and all of the awesome things this vibrant small town has to offer.  For $25 ($30 day of), participants were given access to the sectioned off area adjacent to the Catamaran where food and beer samples were offered to the packed house.  For price of admission, each attendee was given 10 taster tickets for beer samplings, though nobody was collecting.  By the end of the event, the tipsy crowd (including yours truly) joked around trying to give one another their hoards of unused taster tickets and offering to 'buy' rounds for the masses.  Really, this event was a great time - it was hard not to be in such high spirits on a gorgeous 'winter' day on the bay!

Local and regional craft beers were offered from brewers including Lagunitas, Firestone Walker, Ballast Point, Stone Brewing Co., Green Flash, Pacific Beach Ale House, Left Coast, Amplified Ale Works and more.  Samplings from local eateries were offered, including delicious fish tacos from Sand Bar Sports Grill, scrumptious spicy shrimp from PB Fish Shop, and beautifully refreshing ahi bites from Duck Dive.

Jackson Price entertaining the crowd
PB Surf Club had boards on display to keep with the vibe, while Surf Monkey Bicycles showcased an array of bikes, including Zambikes bamboo framed bicycles - the coolest beach cruisers we've ever seen.  Music performances by The Yes! Team and Jackson Price Band invigorated and entertained the crowd throughout the glorious afternoon.

For the price of admission, the Bikes, Boards, and Brews event is definitely a value.  I ate 3 fish tacos, about 10 delicious spicy shrimp, and drank around a 6 pack worth of samples, and we didn't get there til halfway through!  It made for a glorious Saturday afternoon, and day drinking is the new "night out", which should always be followed, of course, by a long and deep nap.  Check out the video below to see a bit of the event.  We're the WOO people at 0:16 in!
