Puesto, the popular La Jolla taqueria that artfully mixes a casual approach with an original twist on Mexican street food, has opened their second location in Downtown San Diego’s new dining hub - The Headquarters at Seaport District. Neighboring the likes of Pizzeria Mozza and Seasons 52, the second Puesto location is set to grand open on November 21 and will offer an expanded menu highlighted by their coveted tacos made with crispy melted cheese and the finest ingredients to hit fresh, house-made tortillas. The new Puesto menu will feature antojitos (Mexican tapas), and innovative cocktail frescas in a full-service, beautifully designed restaurant, along with its signature taco line in an awesome atmosphere.
“We are excited to share so much more of the authentic Mexican cuisine we love at the new Puesto location,” says co-owner Eric Adler. “We strive to create the greatest tacos you’ve ever tasted, and this new space will be a spectacular place to savor Mexican food, drinks and hospitality!”
The 4,500 square foot restaurant is designed by Thomas Schoos, the creative genius behind the décor of Morimoto in Mexico City and Waikiki, Tao Las Vegas and Searsucker in San Diego and Austin, and includes two custom art walls by famed artist Chor Boogie in addition to the inviting dining room, mezzanine and patio seating.
“I wanted the feeling inside Puesto to be as vibrant and alive as a street festival or a bullfight in old Mexico, with all the color, action and excitement you associate with that,” says designer Thomas Schoos.
The expanded menu (copied below) of antojitos includes a number of raw preparations including ceviches and crudos using local fish and produce. Exceptional Mexican cuisine favorites, various house-made guacamoles, grilled prawns, octopus, scallops and other small plates have been introduced to compliment the tacos, which will be presented on large platters communal-style in the main dining area and bar/living room. Executive Chef Luisteen Gonzalez, inspired by his travels throughout Mexico, is also creating new braises and incorporating classic Mexican flavors into the taco offerings.
Puesto has also collaborated with some of San Diego’s best mixologists - Jen Queen, Lucien Connor and Ian Ward, who have assisted Puesto in incorporating fresh and authentic Mexican flavors to its new cocktail program. The focus will be on cocktails frescas mixed with house-made aguas frescas, infused tequilas, extraordinary margaritas and a vast tequila selection. A variety of California and Guadalupe wines, as well as a great selection of San Diego’s best craft brews and Mexican beers will be available from twelve rotating taps.
Puesto is family-owned and operated by brothers, Eric and Alan Adler, and their cousin Isi Lombrozo, all native San Diegans of Mexican descent. A native of Mexico City, Puesto’s Executive Chef and Partner Luisteen Gonzalez brings genuine Mexican flavors and over a decade of experience catering exquisite Mexican food.
Puesto is committed to serving all-natural meats, sustainable seafood, organic local vegetables, flavorful salsas made from scratch daily and homemade stone ground corn tortillas. Puesto is proud to partner with many local purveyors, and will create salads, salsas and tacos with produce from famed San Diego purveyor, Suzie’s Farm.
