July 23, 2014

This month, Makers Quarter, located at the corner of 15th and F in East Village, has launched several new ongoing events, including Bring Your Own Work (BYOW) Day and Food Truck Fridays as well as a special Comic-Con event this Friday night called, Nerd Nite.

SILO in Makers Quarter is being established as a year round event venue to bring collaborative community and creative culture to East Village, and will be the launch pad to encourage the early adopters in San Diego to embrace the neighborhood and continue to bring about positive change, by and through events like the following:

Bring Your Own Work (BYOW) Day
- Launched on Wednesday, July 9 by Makers Quarter, Moniker Group and the Downtown San Diego Partnership, BYOW is an outdoor, collaborative work space for innovative ideas, community gatherings, creative thinking and more, held every Wednesday from 1-5pm within SILO. BYOW encourages San Diegans to bring their work and activities to SILO for the day for a fun outdoor experience and change of scenery from the office. There is free WiFi so guests are able to plug in and work. San Diegans have the opportunity to pack a picnic and bring their dog as SILO is dog-friendly. In addition, there are SILO games (Ping Pong, Bean Bag Toss, etc.) for guests to enjoy.

Food Truck Fridays - Food Truck Fridays presented by Makers Quarter in partnership with CityBeat and FM 94/9, kicked off on Friday, July 18 at SILO in Makers Quarter. The event will run every Friday through August 29 and will bring San Diego’s favorite food trucks, including Casanova Fish Tacos, Stuffed, Ka Pow and Brazil on Wheels, and fashion trucks to East Village for a fun night of food, fashion, live music, craft beer and cocktails to benefit a different local charity each week. The next Food Truck Friday will be this Friday, July 25 and will feature live music curated by Tim Pyles of FM 94/9 and will benefit San Diego Professionals Against Cancer, a non-profit organization dedicated to generating monies for cancer research, patient treatment, and services through fund-raising events such as their flagship San Diego Festival of Beer. The event is complimentary and is for guests 21 and older and takes place from 4:30pm to sunset.

Nerd Nite - Hosted by National Geographic Channel, after the Comic-Con exhibit floor closes on Friday July 25, guests are invited to SILO in Makers Quarter to join a fun night of trivia and three presentations by some of NatGeo’s leading personalities.
