Quartyard to Break Ground in the East Village on October 1 | New Outdoor Urban Park To Offer Exciting Events and Vendors

September 29, 2014

Quartyard will hold its Ground Breaking Ceremony on Wednesday, October 1, starting at 12:30pm in San Diego's East Village, onsite at the corner of Park and Market. Celebrate the beginning of this transformation from vacant lot into outdoor urban park in the heart of Downtown’s up-and-coming East Village. Open seven days a week, the plaza will offer rotating food trucks, art and fashion shows, film festivals, educational events, local farmers markets, and public and private events. The marketplace will also host social gatherings such as local beer tasting events, fundraisers, private parties, urban explorations, pet-friendly events and so much more. Permanent tenants include Best Beverage Catering, Meshuggah Shack, and S&M, Sausage and Meat (a new food concept from Scott Slater of Slater's 50/50).

Quartyard is a project from RAD Lab  (which stands for "research architecture development laboratory"), and is considered a temporary public park after.  The plan is to incorporate a bunch of retrofitted shipping containers into a public space at the 28,500 square foot lot that the city plans to eventually sell to a high-rise housing developer. RAD Lab has signed a 3 year lease on the space.

At Quartyard, Best Beverage Catering will be operating the Beer Garden bar serving local craft beer by the “quart” and “half quart”. Wine and craft cocktails will also be available. Meshuggah Shack Coffee Shop will be serving up delectable coffees, espressos, teas, and noshes. S&M will be offering mouth watering sausages and exotic meats to tantalize your taste buds. The Quartyard space will be used for daily tenants, as well as public and private events. There will be a 40-foot prep kitchen and an event catering station to service all event-catering needs and a canopy structure will be located inside the beer garden, serving as a shade system and acoustical structure.

The groundbreaking is open to the entire community and will be located at 1102 Market Street, taking place from 12:30 to 2pm on October 1. Attendees will include Councilman Todd Gloria and San Diego Partnership President Kris Michell. For more information, visit quartyardsd.com and check out some of the artist renderings below.
