October 2, 2014

The San Diego Brewers Guild (SDBG) will host the inaugural San Diego Beer Week Summit on Tuesday, October 7, from 4 to 7pm at the Sheraton San Diego Hotel & Marina’s ballroom. The presentations will be from 5-6pm with opportunities to network and sample craft beers an hour before and after the event. The invitation-only San Diego Beer Week Summit will feature discussions led by key figures in the local craft beer community on important and trending topics in the industry. In addition, the San Diego Brewers Guild will present the latest updates on San Diego Beer Week, an annual 10-day countywide event scheduled to run November 7 - 16.

“The goal of the San Diego Beer Week Summit is to educate the community about the SDBG’s efforts and events, which are vital in maintaining San Diego’s reputation as the craft beer capital of America,” said SDBG’s president, Brian Scott. “By bringing together members of the local craft beer community with representatives from local government, hospitality, tourism and retail sectors, we hope to open the lines of communication between the groups and discover new ways to rally together behind events like San Diego Beer Week in order to continue the growth of our county’s beer scene.”

Summit speakers include Brian Scott (SDBG President), Jerry Sanders (Former San Diego mayor & CEO/President of the Chamber of Commerce), Chris Cramer (CEO, Karl Strauss Brewing Co.), Steve Robbins (Director of Hospitality, Stone Brewing Co.), Russ Mitchell (Director of Marketing/Sales, Sheraton San Diego Hotel & Marina), Kevin Ham (Economic Development Director, City of Vista). Topics to be discussed include the history and importance of San Diego Beer Week, the economic impact of San Diego Beer Week, how to maintain San Diego’s status as America’s craft beer capital through events like San Diego Beer Week, how the hospitality, tourism and retail sectors can support the local craft beer industry and vice versa and how the local government can support the craft beer industry to maximize economic impact on both local and regional levels.

The 6th annual San Diego Beer Week is scheduled to take place across the county from November 7-16,. SDBW, the region’s largest craft brewing event, is a 10-day celebration that encourages people to drink local and support their breweries, while showcasing the continued growth and ingenuity that has secured San Diego’s reputation as the world’s premier craft beer destination.

SDBW will kick off with the San Diego Brewers Guild’s two-day festival, VIP Brewer Takeover (Friday, Nov. 7) and San Diego Brewers Guild Festival (Saturday, Nov. 8), benefitting the Surfrider Foundation and Fight ALD. Throughout the week, over 20,000 craft beer enthusiasts from across the world will descend upon San Diego to enjoy hundreds of events and explore almost 100 craft breweries. During the 10-day celebration, breweries, brewpubs and industry affiliates will host events, ranging from cask nights and beer-paired dinners to specialty events like a mountain bike excursion ending at one of San Diego’s brewpubs.
