Javier Plascencia Mentors on ABC's The Taste

January 2, 2015

On Thursday, January 8, our local celebrity chef Javier Plascencia, known as one of the founders of Baja Med cuisine, will be a guest mentor on ABC’s The Taste, airing at 8pm. He’s handsome, knows how to cook, and his family has built a restaurant empire from Tijuana to San Diego, featuring a specialized Mex-Med brand of cuisine. He’s even been dubbed the ‘Wolfgang Puck’ of border-town cuisine.

The episode, aptly named “Latin,” will feature bold, bright, flavorful and spicy dishes. The remaining competitors are tasked with creating dishes like ceviche and tacos. This will be the second chef from the San Diego area to appear on the show as a guest/mentor (Brian Malarkey being the first).

The Taste is a cooking-themed reality competition on ABC that is currently in its third season. The guest panel features no-holds barred Chef Anthony Bourdain, British food star Nigella Lawson, expert chef/author Ludo Lefebvre and chef, author and restaurateur Marcus Samuelsson.

Chef Javier is known for his restaurant Romesco Mexiterranean Bistro in Bonita, as well as many in Baja, including Mision 19 and Erizo in Tijuana and Finca Altozano in Valle de Guadelupe. Plascencia will open Bracero Cocina de Raiz in Little Italy this March.
