San Diego's Largest Oceanfront Sushi Restaurant Set To Open April 1 | Cannonball Is Now Ready To Make A Splash In Mission Beach

March 15, 2015

Cannonball, Mission Beach's highly anticipated Pacific Rim and sushi concept, is scheduled to re-open on April 1 at Belmont Park. Created by Eat.Drink.Sleep., the San Diego based hospitality company that manages signature properties such as Draft South Mission Beach, Tower23 and The Lakehouse Hotel & Resort - the soon-to-be largest oceanfront rooftop bar and restaurant in the city will feature three distinct dining experiences including a modern bar and lounge, Pacific Rim inspired dining space and a glass sushi cube overlooking the Pacific Ocean featuring a traditional sushi bar.

Cannonball will feature small plates and share plates created by Belmont Park Executive Chef Brad Wise. Share-worthy plates include chicken wings with teriyaki sauce and sesame seeds, plancha skewers with lemongrass chicken, Brussel sprouts and beef tongue, along with salmon tataki accompanied by a house made tomatillo ponzu sauce and jalapeño.

Those dining in the signature sushi cube will find an upscale dining experience with a more traditional Japanese focus. Sushi Chef Hugo Arreguin’s innovative sushi roll creations include the Bellyflop Roll with crab, cucumber, topped with ahi poke served on a lemon ring, the Cali Dreaming Roll filled with crab, spicy tuna, yellowtail, cilantro, onion and topped with seared ahi, togorashi and theVolcano Roll made with smoked salmon and crab then topped with spicy scallops. To complement the cuisine, Cannonball will feature Japanese beers, sake and beachy craft cocktails focused on clear spirits.

Suspended above the Mission Beach boardwalk at Belmont Park, guests will feel as if they’re dining at a swim-up bar. The 9,400 square foot space featuring 420 seats was designed by Colkitt&Co and Hollis Brand Culture. The glass-enclosed sushi cube has 42 seats and opens up to sweeping views of the Pacific Ocean. The space will showcase a variety of aquatic themed elements such as traditional poolside furnishings. Additional design elements include pool tiles lining the restaurant perimeter with watermarks and clever signage conceptualized by Hollis Brand Culture.

Cannonball will be open for lunch and dinner starting at 11am daily. Diners will find the restaurant on the southwest corner of Belmont Park above Draft on the South Mission Beach boardwalk at 3105 Ocean Front Walk. For information, call (858) 228-9304 or visit cannonballsd.com.
