‘Tis the season for big hats, posh parties and betting it all on a win, place or show. That’s right, it’s Kentucky Derby time! And we will let you in on a little secret… you don’t have to be in the Bluegrass state to catch all the action! In honor of “The Most Exciting Two Minutes in Sports,” the Gaslamp's barleymash is holding its annual Derby party on Saturday, May 2. This event will give San Diegans the chance to experience all the glam and excitement of the Kentucky Derby without having to leave the West Coast.
For $25, guests can indulge in a traditionally delicious Derby-inspired meal, including a cup of Kentucky Burgoo, a hot brown sandwich and a refreshing mint julep. A raffle will be held for multiple prizes, including the opportunity to win a truly VIP experience at the Del Mar racetrack. The grand prize winner will score four tickets to Opening Day, a collector’s edition Derby bottle, and transportation to and from the racetrack via Uber. Not to mention, proceeds from the raffle will benefit the Wounded Warrior Homes charity.
A “Best Dressed” and “Best Hat” contest will also be held, judged by some of San Diego’s most fashionable citizens, so dress to impress. San Diego band, The Tail Draggers, will be providing some down-south bluegrass tunes to get attendees in the spirit of the derby.
