Karl Strauss Brewing Company Kicks Off ‘Arts & Amps’ Event Series On Saturday, May 30 | Free Event Pairs Art, Music & Craft Beer In Support Of San Diego’s Creative Community

May 20, 2015

Karl Strauss Brewing Company’s Arts & Amps event series, formerly known as B.A.M. (beer, art, music) kicks off on Saturday, May 30 from 5 to 8pm at the company’s tasting room and beer garden at their main brewery in Pacific Beach. The Arts & Amps series provides an outlet to showcase KARL’s special release beers, local musicians and local artists. This first Arts & Amps event features live music by local favorites Blackout Party & Low Volts, work from the local artists of La Jolla’s Thumbprint Gallery and several small batch beers and sour releases from the brewery’s cellar.

“Since we brewed our first beer in 1989 we’ve been partnering with the creative community of San Diego,” says Matt Rattner, Karl Strauss Brewing Company president and co-founder. “Supporting the local community is part of our core values and we’re proud to help champion the arts scene and bring craft enthusiasts together.”

For this installment of Arts & Amps, the brewing company will pour several rare releases from its small-batch efforts, including ‘Queen of Tarts,’ a complex dark sour made with Michigan cherries and a ‘wild’ yeast strain, which recently won bronze at the Los Angeles International Commercial Beer Competition; plus four varieties from the “Under the Stairs” experimental sour series. Also on tap will be all of KARL’s signature beers, including the recently re-released, multi-award winning Mosaic Session Ale.

Amped up live sets by award-winning local bands, including San Diego swamp rockers Blackout Party and blues-tinged rock-n-roller Low Volts, will shake the tasting room. Blackout Party were recent guests on “A Red Trolley Show,” a YouTube series fueled by Karl Strauss Brewing Company, which captures acoustic sets by local bands while riding the San Diego trolley.

La Jolla’s Thumbprint Gallery, a fixture in San Diego’s art community, has curated a special exhibition with an impressive roster of local artists. Notable local artists involved include Matt Land, Bryan Tipton, Diego de la Torre and Jacki Geary. Custom pieces will be on view and available for purchase at Arts & Amps.

Admission to Arts & Amps is free and open to the beer imbibing public (21+). Karl's Pacific Beach tasting room is located at 5985 Santa Fe Street. For more information, visit karlstrauss.com.
