Modern Times Beer took to social media today to announce plans on opening a brewery, restaurant, and specialty coffee shop in Los Angeles in 2016. According to the post, "expect crazy one-off beers, decadent vegan food, & mind-blowing espressos, pour-overs, & cold brew." This news leaves us pondering, why LA and not SD?
Named after a utopian community founded in 1850, Jacob McKean started Modern Times Beer with head brewer Derek Freese in 2013. The now-30-plus-barrel operation began production at its brewery and tasting room in Point Loma in 2013 after a record-breaking Kickstarter campaign. Around its one year anniversary, Modern Times opened its Flavordome tasting room in North Park at 3000 Upas Street and has since started roasting and selling their own coffee beans.
