Executive Chef Jason Knibb of NINE-TEN in La Jolla is doing the San Diego area proud, making it to the final 16 in a national breakfast recipe competition. The Hometown Breakfast Battle is a national chef recipe competition that started with 135 chefs from across the country who have battled it out to create America’s best breakfast in honor of the 135th Anniversary of the Thomas’ brand. Local fans have through Sunday, Oct. 4 to vote online to ensure Jason makes it into the next round of competition that narrows the pool from 16 chefs to just eight.

For the Hometown Breakfast Battle, each chef had to utilize Thomas’ iconic English Muffins and Bagels to showcase how easy it is to add some local flair and approachability to breakfast. Chef Jason has already beat out 119 other chefs to make it to the top 16 in round two. If he wins the overall competition, he’ll receive $25,000.

"While we will have one winning chef at the end of Thomas' Hometown Breakfast Battle, the real winners here are the consumers who will have access to 135 breakfast recipes from some of our country's most beloved chefs," said Jon Silvon, Senior Category Director, Breakfast Portfolio, Thomas' Breads. "After 135 years, consumers will be offered 135 new ways to eat Thomas' iconic English Muffins and Bagels, as these cooking pros showcase how easy and fun it is to add some local flair and approachability to your morning menu, using our products as the main ingredient."

Consumers can vote once daily in subsequent rounds and will also be automatically entered into a random drawing to win free Thomas' products each day and the consumer grand prize of $10,000 at the end of the contest.

Chef Jason's submission is a southern California inspired breakfast sandwich- a chipotle spiced rub pork belly, grilled tomato, and charred jalapeno and avocado puree topped with a fried egg on a Thomas' English muffin.
