Horton Plaza Park To Grand Open On May 4 | Community Celebration To Be Hosted By Mayor Faulconer

April 18, 2016

On Wednesday May 4, from 6:30-10pm, the official grand opening of Downtown San Diego’s highly anticipated Horton Plaza Park will take place. The grand opening celebration will be open to the public and hosted by Mayor Kevin Faulconer with special performances, beer gardens, food trucks, offerings from the Park Pavilions, live art, and the debut of the restored Irving Gill Fountain.

Horton Plaza Park will welcome installation artist, musician and visionary William Close & The Earth Harp Collective to perform in the new amphitheater perfectly suited for live performances. He’ll be constructing an Earth Harp that extends over the crowd for a special performance commemorating the first of many live events to come.

In addition, Horton Plaza Park commissioned world-renowned artist Kelsey Montague to showcase two incredible temporary installations at Horton Plaza Park, including a 3-story tall mural and a free-standing wall in the Historic Park that will be created live onsite during the event. Guests will be able to have complimentary professional photos taken with each interactive piece. SACRA PROFANA (Latin for "Sacred/Profane"), a choral ensemble of 20 professional singers with a mission to enhance cultural life of Southern California, will also perform at the event.

Horton Plaza Park is located on the corner of 4th Avenue and Broadway, adjacent to the Westfield Horton Plaza Shopping Center (parking will be available in the shopping center). For more information, visit facebook.com/events/1400924390207129.
