Following
last month’s announcement of an upcoming brick and mortar location,
San Diego Poke Co., the popular poke vendor at the Hillcrest and Scripps Ranch Farmers Markets, has confirmed it will open on Sunday, May 1 in a 900-square-foot space on Friars Road between Mission Valley and Grantville. To celebrate the occasion, the first 100 guests will receive one free build-your-own poke bowl, the restaurant’s beloved staple dish.
The casual eatery has also revealed its full menu, highlighted by eight signature specialty bowls, from favorites like “The OG SD” tuna bowl to the salmon-based “Reel Bliss” with pineapple and serrano peppers and the vegetarian “Feel Soy Good” tofu bowl served on a bed of mixed greens. Other specialty items include salmon wonton tacos, the favorite of Chef Meljohn Sebastian, and poke served on nacho style chips.

San Diego Poke Co. was established in March 2015 as a vendor at the Scripps Ranch Farmers Market, and shortly thereafter, the Hillcrest Farmers Market, where it is now a fan favorite. The soon-to-open restaurant specializes in poke, a traditional Hawaiian dish commonly made with raw ahi tuna flavored with seasonings including sea salt, soy sauce, seaweed, sesame oil and other preferred ingredients. The company will soon compete at this year's annual
I Love Poke event at the Bali Hai on May 24.

The menu at San Diego Poke Co. will also allow guests to build their own regular or large sized poke bowls, with a variety of bases, fish and proteins, and toppings. Seven different sauces will include owner Yohei Umezu’s favorite Sweet Shoyu alongside other sweet, spicy, citrusy and gluten free flavors. SD Poke Co. will also offer authentic mochi ice cream flown in via overnight shipping from Hawaii and ice cream macaron sandwiches.
