Cold War Kids, 311, Thievery Corporation & More Set To Headline Del Mar Racetrack Concert Series This Summer

Del Mar has released its official 2016 Summer Concert Series lineup, which include performances by Cold War Kids, 311, Ziggy Marley, Thievery Corporation and many more. Opening Day of Del Mar Racetrack is right around the corner, and on a Friday for the first time ever - Friday, July 15. The season runs through Labor Day, September 5 and features an array of epicurean events in addition to 11 musical performances.

It’s officially concert season in San Diego as Del Mar sets the stage for its eight-week Summer Concert Series, bringing in 11 performances from top musicians across the country. This year’s lineup spans an impressive display of talent, including the Alt-Rock, So-Cal based Cold War Kids, the king of Rockabilly – Brian Setzer, award winning country singer and songwriter Chris Young, indie pop group Fitz and The Tantrums and EDM duo Chromeo.

  • Saturday, July 30 - Reggae Fest featuring Ziggy Marley
  • Friday, August 5 - Girl Talk
  • Saturday, August 6 - Brian Setzer’s Rockabilly Riot!
  • Friday, August 12 - Chris Young
  • Saturday, August 13 - 311 and Matisyahu
  • Friday, August 19 - Thievery Corporation
  • Friday, August 26 - Pepper
  • Friday, September 2 - The Wailers
  • Saturday, September 3 - Chromeo
Music lovers will rejoice since live music can be enjoyed all day in the seaside cabana area prior to the headlining acts. Catch a few races while taking advantage of special Friday drink discounts on Tecate and Coors Light in the cabana area only. Guests can also indulge in a Del Margarita or two with Del Mar’s new Friday Happy Hour, featuring half off of all Del Mar’s signature drinks until 6pm every Friday throughout the season, with the exception of Opening Day. All concerts are free with the purchase of standard $6 racetrack admission. For concertgoers entering after the day’s final race admission is $20.

In addition to live entertainment, this year’s season-long festivities include new events such as Del Mar’s BBQ State Championship (July 17), featuring 70 teams competing for the title of the best BBQ west of the Mississippi, and Del Mar’s Tacotopia (August 13), where local restaurants go head to head in crafting the ultimate San Diego taco. There also will be two Craft Beer Festivals (July 23, August 20), a Gourmet Food Truck Festival (July 23) and a Supersized Family Fun Day (July 17). Back again will be Free and Easy Wednesdays, two Donuts Days (July 16, August 13) and an ultra comfy Cobian Sandal Giveaway (August 27).

Opening Day for the summer season is Friday, July 15 with gates opening at 11:30am and first post taking place at 2pm. After the opening weekend, racing takes place Wednesday through Sunday with post time for the first race on most days at 2pm. First post on Fridays will be 4pm. with the exception of Opening Day, July 15 is 2pm, and Friday August 26 and Friday September 2, first post is 3:30 p.m.
