Harvest By The Patio Premiers In San Diego's East Village | The Patio Group Expands With Health Conscious Concept

November 4, 2016

The Patio Group continues its rapid expansion and has opened its newest culinary venture in San Diego's East Village. Harvest By The Patio is ready to bring health-conscious, fast-casual cuisine to the downtown neighborhood, featuring a menu with an emphasis on seasonal, locally sourced ingredients and a down-to-earth cocktail program.

Harvest By The Patio is located in the Carnation Dairy Building, which most recently housed Table No. 10 restaurant, at the corner of 10th and J Street. The restaurant is set up for patrons to order at the walk-in counter service within the first floor grab-and-go area, then head upstairs to enjoy their meal or have a drink while they wait in the second story bar and lounge. The second floor dining room has a comfortable layout with a variety of seating areas and televisions dotting the walls.

Headed by Executive Chef Amiko Gubbins of Chef Antonio Friscia’s Legal Restaurants team, which also opened Fireside By The Patio in Point Loma's Liberty Station, Harvest By The Patio aims to redefine the concept of “health food” by featuring fresh, minimally prepared dishes that highlight the deep, complex flavors of local ingredients.

"Harvest by The Patio is an incredible avenue in which to create change in the community as to how we produce and eat our food," said Chef Gubbins. "People are educated now and they actually care what they’re putting in their bodies. We want to show everyone that this food is not just good for you - it’s just plain good!"

Included on Harvest by The Patio’s menu is a variety of salads, bowls, and sandwiches. Highlights include a “Seven Summits” bowl, featuring roasted seasonal squash and a roasted shallot dressing, and an inspired take on fattoush, a Middle Eastern bread salad, comprised of chopped vegetables and crispy naan with sumac dressing. Harvest by The Patio will also offer entrees during their dinner service, which include dishes such as a Moroccan-spiced flat iron steak and a seared shiso & pepper crusted albacore tuna.

The Harvest by The Patio experience is rounded off by its drinks program, designed by General Manager Travis Carter. Cocktails are created with local distilleries and fresh ingredients for a unique drink experience. This includes drinks such as “The D.A.C.,” an updated take on The Last Word cocktail, and “The Lady Wears Red,” a one-of-a-kind gin cocktail with hibiscus flowers, raspberry brandy and sichuan peppercorns.

"All of our food tells a fantastic story through its simplicity," says Carter. “I wanted to bring that same unique element to our drinks as well."

Harvest By The Patio is just the latest concept from The Patio Group, which began in Pacific Beach in October 2012 with the opening of The Patio On Lamont. Since then, the company, led by its owner Gina Champion-Cain, has opened The Patio On Goldfinch in Mission Hills, purchased the historic Saska's Steakhouse, launched Swell Coffee Co., implanted in Liberty Station with the opening of Fireside By Patio, and also bought out Surfrider Pizza in Ocean Beach. Future plans include at least two locations of Patio Express (Crown Point & Mission Beach) and the opening of Bao Beach in Mission Beach.

Starting today, Harvest By The Patio will serve lunch and dinner service daily at 369 10th Avenue in San Diego's East Village. For more information, call 619.541.8301, visit harvestbythepatio.com and check out the menus below.
