Concept Two Seven Eight Makes Its Home At Former Tractor Room Space In Hillcrest

January 21, 2017

Hash House A Go Go's original sister restaurant Tractor Room was a pioneer of craft cocktails in San Diego for a decade before closing in the summer of 2016. The space at 3687 Fifth Avenue in Hillcrest is now home to Concept Two Seven Eight, a modern American eatery and craft cocktail bar led by an experienced team.

Two Seven Eight is the brainchild of Executive Chef and managing partner Jessica Fisher, a Vista native with substantial baking and pastry experience in San Francisco and New York. The name of the restaurant, Two Seven Eight, is actually homage to the address Jessica lived at for 6 years in Brooklyn. Chef de cuisine Rachel Snyder is a Culinary Institute of America graduate with previous experience cooking at Frazier Farms and Cohn Restaurant Group's 333 Pacific, both in Oceanside. Bar Manager Billy Potvin is a longtime mixologist hailing from New York and was once named Thrillist’s and Bombay Sapphire’s Most Imaginative Bartender in New York City.

The seasonally-driven, concise menu at Two Seven Eight is centered around shared plates. Starters include street tacos, fried cauliflower and house cured pickles. There are also a handful of shared dishes and entrees like shishito toast, crispy shrimp, sake braised short ribs, caccio peppe pasta, and a variety of sides. The rotating cocktail menu has more than a dozen drinks, including classics and such signature concoctions as The Girl Backstage with house-infused shishito absolut, aperol, tropical green tea, pink guava, winter melon bitters and cinnamon.

Concept Two Seven Eight recently launched a bottomless mimosa weekend brunch and is now open Monday through Friday from 4-11pm and Saturday & Sunday from 11am-11pm. For more information, visit concepttwoseveneight.com.
