The owner of the Convoy District's Chorus Karaoke & Bar is greatly expanding and taking over the adjacent space to build Hive - a 18,000 square foot dining, drinking and entertainment venue centered around karaoke.
Owner Scott Na is performing a complete build out of the industrial space located near the intersection of Convoy Street and Balboa Avenue to make it the home to the new bar, restaurant and entertainment center. The multi-use space will also feature karaoke rooms, an arcade and eventually a night club.
"Hive will be a space for the whole San Diego community, where fun and good times are the standard," said Na. "There’s no better place to do that than Convoy Street."
Na’s team includes executive chef Q Yoo, formerly of Min Sok Chon, and head bartender, fresh from Los Angeles, Jay Choi. Both Yoo and Choi will focus on local, seasonal ingredients to build their menus. Hive will initially be open every day from 5pm to 2am and feature a dinner and late night menu. American classics with Korean and global twists will be the staples of the 30 plus plates Yoo is offering. The bar program will focus heavily on craft cocktails, but guests can also look forward to over 35 local craft beers on tap and a generous wine list featuring local California and Baja vineyards.
While food and drink will be a focus for the Hive team, so is fun. The new entertainment epicenter will house 14 karaoke rooms, the largest of which can accommodate 100 people. Hive will also feature an arcade outfitted with nostalgic games, as well as new favorites.
"Our team has worked hard to create a foundation rooted in diversity and entertainment," said Na. "We’re excited to share our space and vision with San Diego."
Hive is located at 4428 Convoy St #290 in Kearny Mesa and is slated to open in the first quarter of 2017.
