UPDATE: Instagram Sensation Slapfish To Open 5 San Diego Locations

January 24, 2017

We recently broke the news that Southern California seafood sensation Slapfish is moving into San Diego in 2017, but we now know that the company plans to open at least 5 locations in America's Finest City in the coming years, with at least one expected to premiere by this summer.

As part of its plans to open more than 50 franchised locations in six states in the coming years, Slapfish has teamed up with San Diego native, franchisee Adam Shamel, to launch five locations around the county in the coming years, with the goal to have one opened by this summer. Shamel, who has a background in business consulting and franchising, is currently exploring real estate options hoping to find the right space for the fast-casual concept. We're betting on at least one going into Westfield UTC as part of its expansion and another to be installed in Liberty Station.

Slapfish is a modern, counter-service seafood restaurant that was started as a food truck by Chef Andrew Gruel and entrepreneur and seafood wholesaler Jethro Naude in 2011. The franchise now has 6 brick-and-mortar locations - five in Orange County and one at Los Angeles International Airport - with plans on opening more than 50 outposts throughout California, Utah, Idaho, Arizona, Nevada, Colorado, Texas and New York City over the next couple years. To help with the expansion, the company has teamed up with Fransmart, the franchising firm responsible for the rapid rise of such brands as Five Guys and Halal Guys.

Slapfish has grown an impressive social media following due to its photogenic menu of sinfully seductive seafood sandwiches, burritos, smothered fries and salads. Mostly everything on the menu is less than $15 - from the Clobster grilled cheese to the seared fish plate to the addicting chowder fries.
