Da Chicken Coop To Close In Lemon Grove | Owner Posts Video On Social Media Announcing Impending Closure & Possible New Concept

February 13, 2017

Bradrick "Coop" Cooper took to social media this afternoon to announce the impending closure of Da Chicken Coop, the fried chicken concept that opened in March 2016 next to his popular barbecue restaurant Coop's West Texas BBQ in Lemon Grove. Cooper stated that the space may be reopened in the coming months as a new concept, possibly a barbecue/Mexican fusion eatery.

Bradrick Cooper has made a name for himself in San Diego County as the purveyor of some of the most delicious barbecue in town, but last March, Coop added fried chicken to his full-time repertoire, opening Da Chicken Coop in the same shopping plaza that houses his original concept - Coop's West Texas BBQ. Cooper announced that Da Chicken Coop will shutter after close of business on February 14, with the restaurant either reopening in coming months or Cooper testing a new concept in the space. Cooper has indicated that he is considering opening a Mexican/BBQ infusion restaurant in the space, but nothing is finalized at this time.

"We just want to focus on our #1 thing, and that is barbecue," explained Cooper on the video posted to his Facebook account. "We hope within about 2-3 months to reopen it. We don't know if it's going to be Da Chicken Coop or another concept. In the meantime, Coop's West Texas BBQ will be serving up some of the best barbecue in San Diego County, in the country, and the whole goal with Coop's is just to get better!"

Coop's Lemon Grove institution - Coop's West Texas BBQ - has earned rave reviews over it's 5 year tenure and was even named as one of Yelp's Top 100 Places to Eat in the U.S in 2014 & 2016, but Coop also knows a thing or two about fried chicken. After taking home both the People's Choice and Judge's Choice titles at Eating and Drinking in San Diego's Fried Chicken Throwdown in August of 2015, Bradrick was inspired to start frying chicken full time. When a former taco shop came up for rent in the same plaza that houses his barbecue mecca, he decided to expand, and the idea for Da Chicken Coop was born. Coop indicated that he may offer fried chicken specials in the future at Coop's BBQ.

Both Coop's West Texas BBQ and Da Chicken Coop are located in the shopping plaza at 2625 Lemon Grove Avenue. For more information, visit coopsbbq.com.
