Popular San Diego taqueria The Taco Stand will soon take over the 750 square-foot space currently occupied by Tacos Perla at 3000 Upas Street on the base floor of The North Parker building for the opening of its 4th outpost.
Owned by Aram Baloyan and Julian Hakin, The Taco Stand opened its first location in La Jolla in November 2013 and now has restaurants in downtown San Diego and Encinitas. Inspired by the food stands of Tijuana, the counter service eatery has an old-world taco stand décor and offers a menu with a variety of tacos, burritos, quesadillas, smothered fries and Mexican side dishes. The North Park outpost will also serve beer, micheladas and Mexican soft drinks and offer indoor and outdoor seating.
Tacos Perla, which was opened in summer 2014 by LWP Group (owners of Point Loma's The Pearl Hotel), will close in the coming weeks and the North Park location of The Taco Stand is expected to open by late summer/early fall.
The Taco Stand also recently double downed in La Jolla, taking over the unit that previously housed Porkyland at 1030 Torrey Pines Road in La Jolla Village less than a half mile away from its original location. There is no word yet on what is planned for the space, but it may become another branch, as the La Jolla eatery is exceedingly popular with frequent lines out the door. We reached out to The Taco Stand owners for information but have not heard back.
