Rolled Up Doubles Down With Sushi Burritos In San Diego's Hillcrest Neighborhood

June 18, 2017

Rolled Up is doubling down in Hillcrest! The second location of the sushi-burrito eatery will open within a 1,600-square-foot space in The Hub complex on University Avenue in Hillcrest.

Founder James Markham - whose JM Concepts is also in the process of opening a drive-through pizza concept in Pacific Beach and Liberty Public Market, as well as a breakfast sandwich shop - opened the first Rolled Up fast-casual eatery at 3884 4th Avenue in Hillcrest in early 2016. The restaurant specializes in gigantic, uncut sushi rolls meant to be eaten like burritos.

The new Hillcrest location of Rolled Up within The Hub will be bigger than the original, offering interior seating for more than 50 people, as well as an outdoor patio. Once the new spot is up and running, Markham is considering repurposing the original outpost, possibly transitioning it into another concept. In addition to large-scale sushi rolls, expect new menu items like unique versions of bacon cheeseburgers, lobster rolls, and sous vide desserts. The eatery will also serve beer, wine and sake, and is anticipated to open this July.
