San Diego's Red Card Café Appoints Notable Napa Valley Chef Jeff Larson As Executive Chef

July 10, 2017

Red Card Café in San Diego's Bay Ho neighborhood has appointed new Executive Chef Jeff Larson, who hails from Napa’s renowned dining scene where he held prominent roles at a duo of Michelin recommended restaurants. Larson begins this new role immediately, and will oversee a creative and seasonally-charged revamp of the gastropub’s menus in the coming months.

For the past two years Larson served as Executive Chef of Goose & Gander in St. Helena, CA, during which time he oversaw daily operations of the iconic Michelin recommended property. Prior to this, Larson trained at Napa’s Kitchen Door as well as the Michelin recommended Angele Restaurant + Bar, garnering a coveted three-star review from the San Francisco Chronicle as well as a Top 100 of 2013 rating from nationally renowned food critic Michael Bauer.

"The passion of the ownership inspired me to join the Red Card team." said Executive Chef Jeff Larson. "They are dedicated to serving a certain level of food which is in alignment with my standards and positions us to be a part of the evolving community of great restaurants in San Diego."

A native of San Francisco’s East Bay region, Larson entered the restaurant industry during his mid-twenties having earned a degree in culinary arts from American River College in Sacramento. He describes his fare as "thought out yet approachable," and since moving to San Diego in June 2017 has been researching farmers markets and planning relationships with local farms, a skill set he practiced while in the Bay Area.

In the coming months, guests can expect Red Card’s casual menus to become increasingly ingredient driven, guided by what is available per season and location. Larson intends to create dishes that are "simple and taste like what they are" while maintaining Red Card’s concept which features a selection of the world’s most popular street foods served alongside contemporary fare.

"We are incredibly excited to introduce Chef Larson, his passion, and his dedication to quality and unique ingredients," said Caroline Sternberg, owner of Red Card Café. "Exceptional ingredients and word fare inspired the Red Card concept and Chef Larson’s experience with California’s robust seasonal selections is a perfect fit."

Red Card’s current menu will be updated in the coming month as Executive Chef Jeff Larson's new menu selections are introduced. Red Card Café is open daily at 4140 Morena Boulevard ins San Diego's Bay Ho neighborhood. For more information, visit redcardcafe.com.
