B-Side Bar Replaces Stella Public House As Halcyon's New Neighbor In San Diego's East Village

August 31, 2017

While the Texas-based restaurant duo Stella Public House and Halcyon are gearing up for an expansion to a new outpost in San Diego’s "North City" community of San Marcos, the 2-year-old East Village location will also be undergoing some big changes. The joint destination will be upgraded and rebranded to create a larger Halcyon that also replaces Stella Public House with B-Side Bar - offering cocktails, beer and dinner specials alongside a host of fun games - arcade, ping-pong, shuffleboard and more - creating a new hotspot for fun and events in San Diego's East Village.

Halcyon’s B-side Bar transformation will bring vintage arcade and interactive gaming to East Village starting on September 5. The Halcyon's portion will not change much, continuing to be a community spot for coffee, breakfast, brunch, daytime working, and out-of-the-box cocktails. B-side Bar will maintain the brand's commitment to San Diego's local craft beer industry, while also adding new and fun cocktails and weekly-changing dinner specials to pair alongside favorite arcade consoles and group player games ranging from corn hole to shuffleboard.

"We set our intention to become a community gathering place and we’ve done just that," said John Long, co-owner of the venues. "The vision of the North City project is exciting to be part of - we are happy to be included in this new destination that will truly create a hub of everything our brands care about: community, quality design and sustainability. And in East Village, the new expanded Halcyon with B-side bar serves as an extension of what best serves our customers. Now guests can come for lunch, connect to Wi-Fi to get a bit of work done with espresso, then stay for happy hour and games - and come back for weekend brunch."

Expected to open within San Marcos' North City this coming mid-September, the new Stella Public House and Halcyon will join other local businesses, including Mason Ale Works & Urge Gastropub, that are heading into the ambitious urban development project. North City is a 204-acre, mixed-use community located in the heard of San Marcos. It aims to offer a downtown-like presence that will be the first of its kind in North County.

North County's Stella Public House will continue to source from local farms to create a wood-fired pizza eatery and craft beer tap room experience, which will couple well with Halcyon’s modern coffeehouse and cocktail lounge open from morning to night. Located on the ground floor of the recently opened, mixed-use Block C in North City, the venues will expand the brand that has well-established locations in Texas and California. Separate and distinct, the 2,812 square-foot Stella Public House and 1,709 square-foot Halcyon are situated across from one another and open to either side of the large Halcyon Lounge that also serves as the Block C entryway, creating a “lobby lounge.” Both of their storefronts open completely to the outdoor plaza with extended seating, creating a vibrant space of dining and interaction.

Stella Public House and Halcyon will be located at Block C at North City - 250 N City Drive in San Marcos, CA 92078. Halcyon East Village and B-Side Bar are located at 1429 Island Avenue in San Diego's East Village. For more information, visit stellapublichouse.com and halcyoncoffeebar.com
