Executive Chef Aarti Sanghavi Parts Ways With The Hake In La Jolla

September 27, 2017

Aarti Sanghavi announced today that she has left her position as Executive Chef of The Hake, a seafood-centric restaurant which reopened in October 2016 after relocating to its prime space atop La Jolla Cove.

Chef Aarti Sanghavi is a Chicago native that was raised in Rancho Cucamonga, California. She began cooking at a young age and eventually earned her degree in Hospitality and Restaurant Management from Temple University before enrolling at Johnson & Wales University’s Culinary Arts Program. After an externship at Latitude 41 in Columbus, OH, Aarti made her way to San Diego and worked at Arterra in Del Mar. She next worked at Brian Malarkey's Searsucker, where she eventually became Chef de Cuisine at the now-shuttered Scottsdale location. She later took the role of Executive Chef at Searsucker in downtown San Diego. In 2015, Aarti left Searsucker to become Chef de Cuisine at Puesto. Aarti was appointed Executive Chef at The Hake for the restaurant's reopening in La Jolla in Fall 2016.

Chef Aarti cited creative differences as the reason for today's departure from The Hake. Reportedly, Sous Chef Josh Miller and a portion of the kitchen team also quit alongside Sanghavi.

"Chef Aarti just informed us of her decision to leave this morning, so we still have not appointed a new Executive Chef," said a representative from The Hake. "For the moment, our chef founders, Federico Rigoletti and Roberto Craig, will be taking over while we search for a local chef to lead our team."

There is no word yet on where the young and talented chef is off to next, but we wish her the best of luck. Any restaurateur interested in speaking with Chef Aarti can reach her by email at [email protected].
