San Diego's First Shake Shack Locations Opens This Friday

October 17, 2017

Popular burger chain Shake Shack will open its first-ever San Diego Shack this Friday, October 20 at 11am in the Westfield UTC Shopping Center in La Jolla.

Shake Shack is a critically acclaimed, modern day “roadside” burger stand known for its 100% all-natural Angus beef burgers and chicken sandwiches (no added hormones or antibiotics), griddled flat-top dogs, fresh-made frozen custard, crispy crinkle cut fries and more. The New York City-based Shake Shack has earned a cult-like following around the world since its inception in 2004.

In addition to the Shack classics, the Westfield UTC Shack will be spinning up a selection of local frozen custard concretes - Hopscotch (vanilla custard, chocolate toffee, Mast Brothers Shake Shack dark chocolate chunks and salted caramel sauce), S’more Peanut Butter Please (vanilla custard, peanut butter sauce and peanut butter s’more bar from Elizabethan Desserts) and Pie Oh My (vanilla custard and slice of seasonal pie from Betty’s Pie Whole). Guests can wash their burgers down with local brews from Latitude 33 Brewing, Ale Smith Brewing Company, Mission Brewery and Mother Earth Brew Co., plus a rotating seasonal brew from Stone Brewing and Modern Times Beer. Wine lovers can enjoy a glass of Shack Red and Shack White wine from Napa-based Frog’s Leap Winery.

As part of Shake Shack’s mission to Stand For Something Good, the Westfield UTC Shack will donate 5% of sales from its Pie Oh My concrete to I Love a Clean San Diego, whose mission is to inspire the community to actively conserve and enhance the environment through example, outreach and local involvement, aimed at creating a zero waste, litter-free and environmentally engaged San Deigo region. In keeping with Shake Shack’s commitment to green architecture and eco-friendly construction, the Westfield UTC Shack’s tabletops will be made by CounterEvolution using reclaimed bowling alley lanes; chairs will be designed by Uhuru using sustainable materials; and booths will be crafted by Staach using lumber certified by the Forest Stewardship Council.

Can’t brave the lines? The Shack will open with the Shack App, allowing guests to order Shake Shack exactly when they want it, right from their phone. With the Shack App, guests can select their food, choose an available pickup time and it will be cooked-to-order and timed to their arrival.

Also planned to be installed as part of Westfield UTC's more than half-billion dollar renovation is a new Great Maple, True Food Kitchen, Javier's Finest Food of Mexico, The Winery Restaurant & Wine Bar, Din Tai Fung Dumpling House, the New Zealand-inspired Arbor, South African steakhouse Smokeyard BBQ and Chop House, and Raised By Wolves - a cocktail lounge by San Diego's CH Projects (Craft & Commerce, Ironside Fish & Oyster, Soda & Swine). A second San Diego Shake Shack is already in the works and is anticipated to open at 675 Camino de la Reina in Mission Valley by early 2018.

The Westfield UTC Shack will be located at 4309 La Jolla Village Drive, San Deigo, CA. For more information on Shake Shack, visit shakeshack.com.
