Orange County Donut Sensation Sidecar Doughnuts & Coffee To Open San Diego Outpost

March 30, 2018

Popular Southern California donut destination Sidecar Doughnuts & Coffee, which currently has two locations and is in the process of an expansion, has targeted Del Mar Highlands for its first San Diego outpost, set to open later this year.

Sidecar Doughnuts & Coffee was founded in Orange County's Costa Mesa in 2012 and immediately had hungry patrons lining up for a taste of the small-batch rotating donut menu with flavors like basil eggs benedict, Nutella chocolate chip, birthday cake and passion fruit matcha. A second location opened in Los Angeles' Santa Monica neighborhood in 2015.

The San Diego location of Sidebar Doughnuts & Coffee will open in the space previously occupied by Bath and Body Works in the Del Mar Highlands Town Center. At Sidecar, doughnuts are made everyday from scratch and fried in small batches throughout the day. The eatery also features signature coffee concoctions. The Del Mar location will have exclusive doughnut flavors and is anticipated to open by this September.

In addition to the new Del Mar branch, Sidecar Doughnuts & Coffee is celebrating its fifth anniversary with a "celebrity chef" series throughout the year at its original Costa Mesa branch and has a new food truck in the works. For the series, a rotating lineup of chefs, including San Diego's own Richard Blais, will create new doughnut flavors that will be featured for a month with proceeds benefitting each chef's chosen charity. Sidecar's new food truck will also unveil this year and will travel throughout Southern California and be available for events.
