Queenstown Bistro Brings New Zealand-Inspired Cuisine To Westfield UTC

March 21, 2018

New Zealand-inspired Queenstown Bistro - sister restaurant to popular Little Italy eatery Queenstown Public House, Ocean Beach's Raglan Public House, Dunedin North Park and Bareback Grill in Pacific Beach - has softly opened its doors to the public at Westfield UTC in La Jolla, offering guests full service at al-fresco dine-in tables and the bar, or fast counter service to take food and drinks to-go.

Located in the central clock tower in the recently revamped Westfield UTC shopping center, Queenstown Bistro sits in a relaxing garden oasis offering an eclectic lunch and dinner menu. Menu items include shareables, small plates, soups, salads, sandwiches and Kiwi favorites including lamb, grilled shrimp and famous Queenstown New Zealand’s creative Fergburger-style burgers made with organic grass-fed beef, chicken and other exotic meats. Guests can also find an alluring selection wine and beer from New Zealand and from all all over the globe as well as soju-based craft cocktails, house-made sangria and more. Queenstown Bistro will also serve brunch and offer an afternoon tea service both beginning in Spring/Summer 2018.

"We’re beyond excited to have the opportunity to bring this restaurant to UTC, " said PJ Lamont, Co-Founder of Queenstown Bistro. "It’s been a passion of ours for quite a while to be able to offer this shopping center and the surrounding community a uniquely beautiful and welcoming place to dine, enjoy drinks and socialize with friends and family."

Queenstown Bistro’s charming lush garden patio is shaded by giant striped pagoda umbrellas. The decor pays homage to New Zealand’s natural landscape with tillandsias and ferns dangling under the overhead canopy and several species of ivy, Madagascar jasmine and other tropical foliage in numerous planters climbing the outer walls of the restaurant. The overall feel is modern, stylish and welcoming, boasting hints of classic New Zealand and British design accents that add just a touch of whimsy as a nod to sister restaurant Queenstown Public House.

Similarly to Queenstown Public House in Little Italy, which uses a sheep for its logo, Queenstown Bistro celebrates the natural landscape and sensitivity of the local agriculture of New Zealand - this time with bees as its central theme. There are multiple pendant light fixtures and other lighting features that are inspired by bee hives and honeycomb as well as wire bee sculptures placed throughout.

The restaurant is also planning to serve Manuka honey along with afternoon tea service that will begin later this spring/summer. This honey is only found in New Zealand from bees that pollinate the native Manuka bush and is said by many of its advocates to have natural healing properties that help treat wounds, infections and other conditions. Designer, Michael Soriano also uses "healing" as an underlying theme in the design elements with various shapes and sizes of glass apothecary jars filled with plants, flowers, herbs and organic tea on rows of shelves behind the bar.

Queenstown Bistro is located at 4545 La Jolla Village Drive inside the Westfield UTC shopping center and is now open seven days a week serving lunch from 11am - 5pm and dinner starting at 5pm.
