Dunkin’ Donuts Brings Next Generation Store To San Diego's El Cajon

August 23, 2018

Dunkin’ Donuts’ store of the future is opening in San Diego's El Cajon neighborhood on Saturday, August 25, with a grand opening that will give the first 100 guests free coffee for a year and a custom Dunkin’ Donuts tumbler.

El Cajon’s newest Dunkin’ Donuts restaurant, on 350 Fletcher Parkway in the Home Depot Plaza, is the first in San Diego to feature the store of the future design. The community is invited to join in a ceremonial ribbon cutting taking place at 1pm on Saturday and participate in a week-long fundraiser with the Travis Manion Foundation. This fundraiser will feature a customized Travis Manion Foundation Donut where $1 from each custom donut sold at the El Cajon location will be donated to the foundation. The grand opening celebration will also feature appearances by San Diego Legion players Siaosi CC Mahoni and Nate Augspurger, as well as the San Diego Gulls Mascot, Gulliver.

The new 2,036 square foot El Cajon location is the first Dunkin’ Donuts restaurant in San Diego that will test a variation of the new design this year, including a cold beverage tap system. The new tap system will allow the store to be the first Dunkin’ in San Diego to offer Nitro Coffee, as well as the new front counter bakery case for an enhanced customer experience. Additionally, the El Cajon store is one of a select number of Dunkin’ Donuts restaurants testing new signage that refers to the brand simply as "Dunkin’." The Dunkin’ Donuts’ new restaurant experience in El Cajon also includes a modern design with more natural light, an innovative tap system serving eight consistently cold beverages, an area dedicated to mobile pickups, and a certified restaurant that is designed to save 25% more energy compared to a standard Dunkin’ Donuts restaurant.

This new location is owned and operated by a local San Diego military veteran and experienced franchise group, Burton Restaurants LLC. The franchisee opened San Diego’s first Drive-thru Dunkin’ Donuts restaurant located in National City, and over the past three years has opened or purchased locations on seven military bases and four other locations across San Diego. Over the coming years, there are plans to open several additional Dunkin’ Donuts restaurants in the San Diego area.

"We are thrilled to open San Diego’s first NextGen Dunkin’ Donuts restaurant," said Dunkin' Franchisee Tali Burton. "Our new store atmosphere and menu offerings, such as the innovative cold beverage tap system, are sure to delight guests and keep El Cajon running on Dunkin’ for years to come."
