The next culinary trend to take San Diego by storm seems to be Korean fried chicken! Moving into the space that last housed Smashburger within Rancho Penasquitos Towne Center will be the first of numerous San Diego locations of Ssal Rice Chicken, a fried chicken franchise and beer bar with locations around the globe.
Rice Chicken is a popular franchise that originated in South Korea and now has branches all over the world, including in Vietnam, Philadelphia, Texas, and California. This will be the first of many locations opening in San Diego.
From Louis Chung, who founded Convoy Tofu House in 1999 and opened many other area Korean restaurants over his 20-year career, Ssal Rice Chicken & Beer will offer a menu centered around rice-flour fried, gluten-free chicken tossed with a variety of sauces, in addition to a handful of Korean dishes, 8-12 draft beer offerings, and a full bar. The restaurant will have a 2,100 square-foot interior dining room and a 400 square-foot, dog-friendly patio. Rice Chicken will be expanding to more area outposts within the first year of the first location’s grand opening, which should take place in early 2019.
Ssal Rice Chicken & Beer will sit at 13219-7 Black Mountain Road within Rancho Penasquitos Towne Center. For more information, visit ssalchickensd.com and check out the sample menu below.
